Our Why

I'm Anki - mother, grandmother, and founder of Sēlkyn Tallow.

I believe skin was never meant to be fixed. Only nourished. Only honoured, at every age and every stage it moves through.

For over twenty years I've worked with women through birth, through their cycles, and through the rites of passage that mark a woman's life - as a homebirth midwife, a women's mystery educator, and a menstrual guide. Over and over, I've watched women feel unworthy in their own skin, no matter how beautiful they actually are, and I've watched an entire industry profit from convincing them that fixing, masking, or erasing themselves is a form of empowerment. It isn't. The feminine way has always been to add to, to nourish, to give back, not to strip away.

Sēlkyn Tallow began the way most true things do: quietly, for my own family. When my daughter became pregnant and chose a home birth and a non-toxic life for her baby, I wanted something safe enough for a newborn's skin from day one, and rich enough to support hers through postpartum - the same jar, no compromise, no double standard between what's "safe for baby" and what mum settles for. Around the same time, I was noticing my own skin change as I moved into my late forties, and I wanted something made for that phase of life too, not to reverse it, but to meet it.

Handcrafted in the hinterland of Byron Bay, every Sēlkyn product is organic tallow and whole botanicals, slow-infused the old way, free from synthetic fillers, industrial seed oils, and hormone-disrupting chemicals.

This is about more than skincare. It's my way of role-modelling something different for my daughters and my granddaughters: that beauty and happiness radiate from the inside out, and that ageing is not something to fight.
